Animal Caregiver

 

Objective:                                To provide a loving and comfortable “home away from home” for the animals in the shelter by attending to vital issues of health, sanitation, nutrition, and comfort.

 

Time Requirements:                 

Ø      A minimum commitment of six months (or one semester for students).

Ø      At least one morning per week.

Ø      Weekday Animal Caregivers begin at 8am.

Ø      Limited weekend openings begin at 9am.

Ø      Daily time commitment is a minimum of 2 hours.

                                                 

 

Specific Duties:                         Daily shelter dog care, including:

Ø      Cleaning and disinfecting of dog kennels.

Ø      Feeding and providing clean water for dogs.

Ø      Cleaning of dog exercise yards.

Ø      Ensuring all outdoor runs have fresh water daily.

Ø      Assisting the animal care staff as necessary with routine medical care of dogs.

 

Daily shelter cat care, including:

Ø      Cleaning and disinfecting of cat adoption room, front office, quarantine and isolation areas.

Ø      Feeding and providing fresh water to cats.

Ø      Assisting the animal care staff as necessary with routine medical care of cats.

 

Daily Maintenance of Shelter Environment

Ø      Sweeping and mopping all floors.

Ø      Washing, drying, folding, and putting away laundry.

Ø      Disinfecting, rinsing, and putting away dishes and litter pans.

Ø      Re-stocking shelter supplies, including food, equipment, laundry, and medical supplies.

 

 

 

Qualifications:                         

Ø      The minimum age for Animal Caregivers is 16 years.

Ø      Must be capable of bending and lifting objects and animals safely.

Ø      Must be capable of interacting with all varieties of companion animals safely and humanely.
