Help Volunteers
Objective: To
assist the shelter staff in placing as many animals as possible into permanent
loving homes through providing exceptional customer service.
Specific Duties:
Ø Answering the shelter telephone.
Ø Greeting clients as they enter the shelter
and directing them to the appropriate place.
Ø Providing general information to clients
both in person and on the telephone.
Ø Assisting the shelter staff with comfortably
housing incoming animals.
Ø Assisting the shelter staff to prepare adopted
animals for their new homes.
Ø Assisting the shelter staff in the
processing of adoption paperwork.
Ø Assisting the shelter staff in the
processing of intake paperwork.
Ø Making and documenting adoption and
spay/neuter follow-up calls. Scheduling
call-backs for shelter staff if more intensive follow-up is needed.
Ø Returning phone calls as assigned by staff.
Ø Assisting with the performance of general
office and shelter tasks, including filing, photocopying, faxing,
cleaning/organizing the workspace, and laundry.
Qualifications:
Ø The minimum age for customer service
volunteers is 18 years.
Ø Strong communication and interpersonal
skills.
Ø
Knowledge and acceptance of Dakin Animal
Shelter adoption and intake guidelines.
Ø The ability and willingness to assist people
of all ages and backgrounds in a comfortable, upbeat, and diplomatic manner.
Training:
Ø
Ongoing
procedural and customer service training.
Time Requirements:
Ø A minimum commitment of six months (or one
semester for students).
Ø At least one 2-hour shift per week.
